Home - Faculty of Law

Though only a decade old, the Faculty of Law at the University of Cape Coast is amongst the premier institutions offering the LLB programme in Ghana.  Since its inception, it has consistently punched above its weight due to the phenomenal dedication of its academics, both home-grown and internationally recruited.  Members of the Faculty have included a Queen’s Counsel, a Court of Appeal judge, and individuals who have held national appointments and are qualified to practice in Ghana and other jurisdictions.

We have partnerships with sister universities and law-related organisations in South Africa and the USA.  We look forward to establishing similar partnerships with other institutions worldwide, particularly in the Caribbean. Whilst appreciating the importance of being globally aware, where possible, the Faculty adopts approaches that seek to decolonise the teaching and learning of law.

Our Alumni have found success in private or in-house legal practice, the Judicial Service, the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Parliament.  Many have also found success in the corporate world, NGOs and have gone on to undertake Master’s and Doctoral programmes locally and in countries such as Switzerland, South Africa, and the USA.

Our students are intellectually curious, committed to community service and passionate about social justice.  They undertake mandatory internships, participate in practical legal experiences such as moot court competitions and the National Law Challenge, and engage in experiential learning through field trips to various locations such as prisons, the ports and parliament.

We pride ourselves on providing an environment which will contribute to the personal and professional growth of our students and provide them with the legal knowledge and soft skills to become excellent lawyers as well as tomorrow’s ambassadors, international trade negotiators, judges, legislators, cabinet ministers, thought leaders, social commentators, or any other career they choose.

If you are considering a career in law, we humbly encourage you to consider the Faculty of Law at UCC, the #1 University in Ghana and West Africa!
